Automation curves?

I've noticed that automation can only be expressed in straight lines, what do you think about automation curves as an option?

There's probably been thousands of feature requests, but I'm pretty sure this is the first time for this feature, which actually has baffled me a little bit throughout the years. Perhaps you can say something about why you need it?

They tend to sound smoother.
Think "acceleration/ deceleration".
With linear interpolation, your ear doesn't get that "feeling".
However, this can be (and a lot of people do that, including myself)
easily edited with more automation points.
However, the problem is if you need to change things after the fact then it gets
of course much difficult if you have a lot of control points.
However basic exp/log by itself wouldn't help too much either I think.
This would need at least a multiplier to shape the curve further to be of general use.
(Bezier would be much better in that case and tends to be really noticeable and useful,
but this certainly is very difficult to do and I am also not sure if this would be really necessary.)
A basic proportional scaling/stretching mechanism for automation would be more
important before this IMO.

Good points, Lytz1. However, having at least one additional automation shape type that's "smooth" and curved can be really nice no matter what deeper issues users can discover in the process of using it.

I think automation curves are fast (draw a dynamic line in 2 seconds) and have a pleasant workflow. Now you're fiddling with points.
